|INTRODUCTION TO THE DISTRICT & SESSIONS COURT, SUKKUR|
As it is commonly known to everyone that SUKKUR is the 3rd biggest city of the Province of Sindh. It came to be the divisional headquarter from 1974 and continued till today. It is considered a hub of commercial activity in the upper area of the province and it connects the other provinces (like Punjab & Balochistan) of the country with Sindh by rail, road and water. The Sukkur was initially part of district Shikarpur. The said district Shikarpur was territorially a vast district as it consisted of the present districts of Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Shikarpur and Ghotki. Later on, in the year 1882-83 Sukkur was given the status of District and its head-quater was also shifted from Shikarpur to Sukkur, the Shikarpur remained its part. The Court of District & Sessions Court, however continued functioning at Shikarpur. It was shifted to Sukkur on 01.04.1902, thereafter, Larkana was made District and separated on 01.04.1913 from District Sukkur. Again on 08.12.1954, Jacobabad and then Shikarpur were made separate Districs. Lately on 03.10.1994, was given the status of District and separated as an independent District. Reducing the territorial limits of District Sukkur to its present area of Talukas Salehpat, Pano Aqil, Rohri, New Sukkur and Sukkur. The founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah also appeared in a couple of cases in District Sukkur. It is said that in one case, he appeared on behalf of Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi, who was arraigned as an accused on the charges of possessing illicit arms, while in the other case he appeared on behalf of Muhammad Ayoub Khuhro in a case involving charges if murder. The senior Advocates are positive and consistent about the appearance of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah as an Advocate of Rohri Court. Unfortunately, due to bomb blast the record of Rohri Court was damaged in 2005 including the 'Wakalatnama' of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and no documentary proof has been collected despite repeated and hectic efforts.
